My first Fotomo work

Some time ago, while browsing in the wonderful shop of the Design Museum in London, I happened to get my hands on a couple of whimsical Japanese magazines displaying photo prints to be cut and assembled into 3-dimensional collages. Needless to say, I bought them right away!

Once home, I made some research and I discovered the world of Fotomo (the word stands for “Photograph” and “Model”) developed by Japanese photographer and artist Itozaki Kimio.

I don’t know why I’ve waited so long but finally, during the last rainy weekend, I resolved to try my hand at assembling my first Fotomo work. Though the final result is usually a city scene, I found a model featuring a camera and I decided to start with that. I bet you are not surprised, are you?

Though the instructions were only in Japanese…

I managed to get this! Ta-da!

What do you think? Isn’t it nice the detail of the post box in the viewfinder?
